European Play-Off Match Preview: Cardiff Met vs Bala Town

After a dismal second half to the season, the Lakesiders still have a chance at the holy grail as the chance of European Qualification remains a possibility after our top six finish in the JD Cymru Premier.

The Town showed what they could do in our last outing, as runners up of the JD Cymru Premier Penybont came to Town and were defeated 3-2 by the Lakesiders, in a much improved performance to finish off the regular season, with Liam Higgins, Callum Edwards and Lassana Mendes all getting on the scoresheet.

The Met also faced many struggles in the Championship Conference, having recorded just three victories and four defeats leading to a fifth place finish. However, just like Bala, the chance of European Football remains despite their struggles.

Danger Man

Thomas Vincent: Despite only scoring five goals, and firing blanks in the Championship Conference, Vincent has always proved difficult to deal with inside the defensive third. The 23 year old is a handful inside the box with his tall stature and strong build, and will look to be the target man for all set pieces for the home side today. The Forward has already recorded a goal against the Town in our 3-3 draw at Cyncoed this season, as the target man pounced on a shot off target to control the ball in front of goal and dribbled around Joel Torrance in goal.

Previous Meetings

The Met have the upper hand on proceedings this season, with four fixtures played between the two sides, with two draws and two wins for the University side. Our last meeting would be one of the two draws the Lakesiders recorded in the Championship Conference, as both sides played out a 0-0 draw at Maes Tegid. The most recent trip to the Capital would end in disappointment, as George Newell cancelled out Eliot Evans' first half opener, only for Ryan Reynolds to strike three minutes later to grab the eventual winner. Both sides played out an extraordinary match in Phase One of this season, as six goals were shared out in a 3-3 draw at Cyncoed Campus, despite the Town leading 3-1 after the hour mark.
