Chief Exec Programme Notes v Queens Park 9th September 2023

Another historic day for Bala Town as we warmly welcome Queens Park FC from Scotland to Maes Tegid for this SPFL Trust Trophy 3rd Round Cup tie. Our visitors are flying high near the top of the Scottish Championship and probably represent the highest standard opposition that has graced our ground. It promises to be a fascinating encounter and a match in which we are very proud of our representation of the JD Cymru Premier League. We will certainly go into this tie with confidence at a very high level. Our superb win last Saturday against an excellent Penybont team retained our unbeaten start to the season and saw us climb to second spot in the Premiership. We also secured this victory despite a number of injury problems and we would hope to be at fuller strength for the match this afternoon. It will be a huge test of our resources to challenge our visitors today but we are certainly looking forward to the challenge. As always in Bala we warmly welcome all who have made the very long journey from Glasgow and we sincerely hope you enjoy our hospitality, our beautiful town and lake and our outstanding scenery. The 5.15pm kick off will allow plenty of sightseeing and no doubt a quick visit to the local hostelries to wet your appetite for the match. Croeso I’r Bala!!

This is our second appearance in this Scottish tournament and we fondly remember the visit of Alloa on October 8th 2016. We lost this match 4-2 but put on an excellent second half performance against the Wasps. We have 2 players still in our squad from that day with both Club Captain Kieran Smith and Nathan Burke both starting that match. Our Assistant Coach Ryan Valentine was also in the starting line up. To add to the continuity at Maes Tegid, Colin Caton remains our Manager as does Steve Fisher as his Assistant. Nothing much changes here!! We are definitely focused on a different result today!!

I must also touch on the superb day we had last Sunday for Ryan Valentine’s 10 year Testimonial match. It was such a momentous occasion with a reunion of our team from 10 years ago and memories of our first ever European Qualification. We were so thankful for all those ex players who turned up to support Val and also to the Wrexham Legends team who kindly supplied the opposition. It was a brilliant day all round and a fitting match to show the gratitude we all feel for Val’s dedication to our Club. There are a huge number of pictures on line from the day, please have a search.

And finally I turn to next week already when we face current League leaders TNS at Maes Tegid on Wednesday evening – 7.45pm kick off. Another crucial match for the Club. Please come and support us!!

As always hugely exciting times at Bala Town!!

I sincerely hope you all enjoy this historic match today. Diolch.

Nigel.
