Late Heartbreak For The Town At The Essity

Following the postponement of last weekend's league fixture against Pontypridd United, the Lakesiders returned to action with a trip to the Essity Stadium to take on Flint Town.

Chris Venables returned to the Starting XI with a goal from the penalty spot, following a successful appeal of his red card in our previous match against Aberystwyth Town, however it was late heartbreak for the Town, as Larnell Cole grabbed a late equaliser to give both sides a share of the points.

Bala Attack From The Beginning

The Lakesiders looked to create chances early on as Newell & Mendes looked threatening on the attack, with Newell looking to be the target man and Mendes chasing the flick-ons from our summer signing.

Newell was the first to come close to breaking the deadlock, as he took the ball down inside the box and created room for a shot with his second touch, but his effort just went passed the post.

Ollie Shannon also attempted to test the Flint keeper, as he collected a flick-on from Newell inside the box and the keeper was forced into a save to push the ball out for a corner.

Hardwork Pays Off

The second half got underway in the same fashion as the first, with countless attacks from the Lakesiders; but to no avail. That was until a shot from Ollie Shannon from inside the box was blatantly handled by Harry Owen, leaving referee Thomas Owen no choice but to point to the spot. Chris Venables stepped up to take the kick on his 501st Cymru Premier appearance, and made no mistake as he delivered the penalty into the bottom left hand corner, despite the Flint keeper guessing the right way.

The Town kept the pressure going following the penalty, and this time Dave Edwards was unfortunate not to double our lead, as he received the ball around 15 yards from goal following some brilliant attacking play between Mendes, Shannon and Edwards, but the Welshman's resulting shot just went shy of the goal.

Chris Venables and Ollie Shannon also had chances in the final ten minutes to try and grab a second, but both of their effort went wide of the goal.

Heartbreak...

Despite the Town looking comfortable going into the final few minutes, it was heartbreak on 89 minutes, as Larnell Cole cut inside from the left and struck the ball towards Ramsay who could only palm the ball into the net, giving Flint a late equaliser.

It's back to cup action for the Town next, as we head to the Oval on Tuesday 20th of September to take on Gwynedd Rivals Caernarfon Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup, with kick off at 7:45pm.
