Historic Day For The Lakesiders In The Welsh Cup!

The Lakesiders produce historic scoreline against Brymbo in the Welsh Cup!

We are through to the third round of the Welsh Cup thanks to an unbelievable victory at home to Brymbo as we scored seventeen at Maes Tegid!

Venables back with a bang!

Chris Venables returned to the starting line-up after his three-match suspension and was on the scoresheet within ten minutes through a spot-kick. It was Will Evans who won the penalty and the captain stood up to take it before blasting the ball home to give the Lakesiders an early lead.

A familiar face levels the scores…

Despite going behind early, Brymbo did not let that affect them. They pushed for an equaliser straight from kick-off and got exactly what they hoped for minutes later as the former Lakesider Michael Thompson’s deflected effort came off Kieran Smith and bounced past the onlooking Alex Ramsay in goal.

Bauress at the double!

Any concerns of an upset were quickly forgotten once Bradley Bauress grabbed his first goal in black & white as he scored inside the area after some brilliant work from Rutherford to make it happen. Before Bauress was once again in front of the opposition goal for a second time within a minute later as he dinked Brymbo’s goalkeeper and give us some early daylight.

Goalscorers galore

It seemed like everyone wanted to join in on the action before the break as Kieran Smith, Will Evans and Oliver Shannon all contributed goals to the scoreline before half-time. Venables got his second before half-time as he finished from close range with Smith becoming the third player to score two minutes later.

Eight was great for Bala as we entered the break with a whopping seven goal lead having scored eight in the first half alone.

Venables with the hat-trick!

Our captain got his hat-trick in typical Venables fashion, the 36-year-old setting himself up with his touch and control to unleash a powerful acrobatic effort past the Brymbo goalkeeper.

The goals continued to pour in as Paul Rutherford was next, grabbing his first goal for Bala as he intercepted the ball off the goalkeeper before dribbling around him and scoring the tenth of the afternoon!

It was another new goalscorer on the scoresheet next as off the bench Danny Walker-Rice produced his first goal for the Lakesiders as his touch and volley was an excellent one to add yet another goal to the game.

It didn’t stop there…

Having already had his hat-trick Venables continued to hunt a personal best for himself on what was quickly becoming a record-breaking afternoon for all involved. He grabbed his fourth within moments of Walker-Rice grabbing his first as he was played through following kick-off and smashed the ball home. His fifth was just around the corner too as Bala was awarded a penalty following a handball by an opposition player. Venables sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to make it thirteen on the afternoon for the Lakesiders with still 15 minutes to go to inflict further damage.

Bauress grabs his hat-trick!

It was a first home start to remember for Bauress who got his thoroughly deserved hat-trick when he struck the ball home inside the area to make it fourteen for Bala. The midfielder completed his hat-trick as well as having assisted Evans with a brilliant cross earlier in the match in what was a memorable afternoon.

Dave Edwards who came on at half-time and as expected joined the action by contributing a goal of his own when he fumbled the ball home from close range following a fantastic cross into his proximity by Oliver Southern. It was then Walker-Rice who grabbed his brace to make it 16-1 to Bala when he cut in onto his left foot, unleashing a powerful effort as a deflection ensured it hit the back of the net.

Leslie scores screamer to cap off a remarkable afternoon

Steve Leslie took on an ambitious effort from the halfway line with a minute to go, with the ball flying in over the helpless Brymbo goalkeeper to secure Bala’s seventeenth goal of the afternoon. The Scottish man’s late screamer also meant he became the eighth different goalscorer, capping off an unforgettable Welsh Cup game.

The game concluded at 17-1 to Bala as we recorded the second-largest victory in the cup competition’s history!

A fantastic attacking display by the Lakesiders who showed no remorse for being the superior team with plenty of goals to share around.

The Lakesiders will now return to league action as we welcome Haverfordwest to Maes Tegid on Saturday, September 11th at 2:30pm.
