Chief Exec's Programme Notes v Aberystwyth 27th Sept 2023

A very warm welcome back to Maes Tegid although at the time of writing it does not appear that it will be warm at all, just very wet and windy! I hope the forecast is wrong! Here we go again for yet another mid week fixture as we welcome Aberystwyth to Bala this evening for another crucial JD Cymru Premier League fixture. This is our 4th mid week match on the bounce and the strain on everyone has certainly began to tell! Our unbeaten start to the season has been dramatically ended with back to back away defeats, firstly in our tame defence of the Nathaniel MG League Cup at Guilsfield last Tuesday and then a really disappointing visit to Barry Town last Saturday. There may have been excuses for the Guilsfield defeat but there certainly were not any for the failure to compete in Barry and there has to be significant improvement this evening to change our fortunes around and return to winning ways. It will as always be a fascinating encounter against our close rivals and we look forward with great anticipation to an enthralling match this evening. We then travel to Newtown this Saturday for another very tough match and then thankfully have 7 days off before the visit of Colwyn Bay to Maes Tegid on Saturday 7th October.

Our Academy has certainly had a tough time at the start of this season. We lost our “B” category classification following some organisational failures and then lost our Head Of Coaching who took up an opportunity with the FAW. We now unfortunately only have 4 teams playing in our Academy due to this somewhat disappointing and unreasonable restructure but we are delighted to have appointed Dan McNeil as our new Academy Director whose job it is to pick the pieces from the position we have found ourselves in and attempt to return it to its former glory. He has to do this without any FAW funding which has been arbitrarily stripped away from us following the re-classification. It is a most difficult job but the Club is fully behind Dan and his team to ensure he gets all the support he needs to enable the Academy to grow and develop all our youngsters in the area. We warmly welcome Dan to Maes Tegid.

As always we thank each and everyone who is attending this evening’s match for your much needed support. Diolch Pawb.

Nigel.
